The siren. The water goddess. The nymph. The mermaid. The sea witch. We know her by many names. The goddess of the waters is a powerful one. If you think of it from a science perspective, our world is made up of about 71% water, and our physical body is around 60% water, so a goddess of water holds much influence. Even more, she is connected with both the ocean and the moon, as they are interconnected. She is powerful.

I felt that the Sea Witch was a perfect goddess to honor for the new year. And, the perfect goddess to honor first in the Sacred Feminine Rising series. To me, the sea is an element representing change. The waves ebb and flow, just as we do. But also, the ocean is constant. It is an element we can turn to for both comfort and strength. The waters are cleansing, from the sea we are reborn — and may we give birth to a new self this year. The ocean is endless, just as we are. The sea witch controls the tide, which way the storm may blow. For the new year, what a beautiful power to harness. We can conduct the tides of our lives with ritual and manifestations.

For this photo series, I asked my beautiful friend Brooke if we could frolic around the beach and do a spell. So, on a rainy day, we went to Malibu. Strangely, the rain stopped as soon as we arrived.  The sky was hazy, while the sea was vibrant and lively. I set up the altar spread, with crystals placed at the four compass points, a dolphin vertebrae, and an abalone shell. Brooke performed the ritual, recited the spell, then cleansed herself with water from the sea. Then, all of a sudden, a flock of birds followed her. They swarmed around us. It was one of the most surreal experiences I’ve had. We all felt the power of the Sea Witch.

I hope this ritual brings you her powers, too.

What You’ll Need:

  • Abalone Shell
  • Ocean Water (or salt water)

___

  • Cast your circle, or create a comfortable place to practice your ritual.
  • Sit on the ground, facing towards the ocean. This depends upon where you live.
  • Close your eyes. Place your palms face up to receive energy. Breathe deeply seven times.
  • Recite:

Goddess of the Sea,

I call to thee.

May the waves of change

wash away negativity

May the sacred waters

cleanse and bless me

As the waves ebb and flow,

I let go of the past,

and embrace the future

with open arms.

As I will it,

so mote it be.

Blessed be.

  • Take the water from your Abalone and slowly pour it over your crown, the top of your head.
  • You are cleansed and blessed by the Sea Witch.
